This is the Soul Train dancers getting down to it in 1982. Video from YouTube. I'm not affiliated with the artist. I just love this song.

D Train was a Brooklyn duo, James "D Train" Williams and Hubert Eaves III, and this one was a straight-up dance floor anthem from the first beat. That synth bass was pure fire at every block party and skating rink. It went to number one on the dance chart and stayed there for three weeks.

The story behind the song

D Train was two friends from Brooklyn, James Williams and Hubert Eaves III, who met in high school and started making music together. "D Train" was a nickname James picked up back in those high school days, and it became the name of the group.

Hubert handled the keyboards and that big synth sound. James brought the voice. Their very first single was "You're the One for Me," released in late 1981, and it went all the way to number one on the dance club chart.

This was right when disco was fading and a new sound called boogie was taking over: still made for dancing, but leaner and funkier, with synthesizers doing the heavy lifting. "You're the One for Me" became one of the records that defined that sound. That's why you still hear it at skating rinks and old school parties today.

Find it on old school dance and boogie compilations.
