Why I’m Choosing Real Videos Over an AI Version of Me
I considered creating an AI version of myself, then changed my mind. Here’s why I’m choosing real videos, honest conversations, and room to make mistakes.
Sammy Beaugard
My face. My voice. My mistakes. I want people to get to know the person who’s actually here.
I was ready to pay for an AI tool that could make videos of me without me having to record them.
I wanted the whole thing: my face, my voice, even my mannerisms. Short videos that looked so real you could barely tell the difference. I started asking about the options.
Then, right in the middle of that conversation, I changed my mind.
I thought about somebody watching one of those videos and believing they were getting to know me. The words might be mine, but I wouldn’t have been there saying them.
For the kind of business I’m building, I want to show up myself.
I want you to hear how I actually talk
Sometimes I stumble over a word. Sometimes I start a sentence, think of a better way to explain it, and change direction halfway through. If you’ve watched my videos, you’ve probably noticed.
That’s how I talk. I can work on being clearer without sanding every bit of personality out of the conversation.
I think there are people watching who feel the same way. They have something to say, but they’re worried about how they’ll sound. They see polished videos and wonder whether they belong in front of a camera.
“I want somebody to watch me and think, ‘I could give this a try, too.’”
If I make every video look effortless, they don’t get to see that I’m figuring things out along the way.
Getting started shouldn’t feel like buying a studio
Especially when you’re new to affiliate marketing, it’s easy to turn preparation into a shopping list. A camera. A microphone. Editing software. Now an AI version of yourself.
Before you know it, you’ve spent more time choosing tools than deciding what you want to share.
Start with your phone if you have one. Find a quiet spot. Face a window for some light. Talk about one thing you know, one question you can answer, or something you’re learning.
You can improve the setup later. You don’t have to solve every production problem before recording your first useful video.
AI still has a place in my work
I’ll keep using AI to brainstorm topics, organize my thoughts, and help with titles and descriptions. Sometimes I know what I mean but need help putting it into words.
That’s useful. So are captions, editing, and cutting out a long pause when it gets in the way.
My decision is about what I want people to experience when they watch me. If I’m sharing my opinion or explaining something I’m working on, I want to say it myself.
A real face is only the beginning
Turning on a camera doesn’t automatically make somebody trustworthy. What you say still matters.
If I haven’t tried something, I should say that. If I don’t know the answer, I shouldn’t invent one. If I make a mistake, I need to correct it.
That matters to me with GoBeaug Links. People deserve to understand what I’m building and what it offers. They should be able to ask questions and hear honest answers from the person behind it.
Try this for your next video
- Choose one question you can answer from experience.
- Write three reminders instead of memorizing a speech.
- Record as if you’re explaining it to one person.
Watch it back. Can people hear you? Is your point clear? Did you say something useful and honest? Those are good things to work on. A small stumble doesn’t have to send you back to the beginning.
I almost bought a digital version of myself. Now I’d rather pick up my phone and have the conversation.
There’ll be mistakes. There’ll probably be a few second takes. But when you watch, you’ll hear me talking in my own voice, the way I actually talk.
I’m comfortable letting people see that. And if you’ve been waiting to feel perfect before you start, maybe it’s time to give yourself that same room.
