How to Make Money Blogging in 2026 (Even If You're Not a Writer)
How to make money blogging in 2026, even if you are not a writer: affiliate links, your own product, ads and an email list, plus honest timelines and AI help.

How to make money blogging comes down to four things: affiliate links, your own product or service, ads once you have real traffic, and an email list that keeps readers coming back. You don't have to be a writer to do any of it. You need something helpful to say, a blog you own, and the patience to keep posting for months before it pays.
Quick answer: Write helpful posts that answer the questions people type into Google. Put a way to earn on each post (an affiliate link, your own offer or an email sign-up). Use AI to help with drafts, but edit them so they sound like you. Expect months, not days, and know that many blogs never earn at all.
Key takeaways
- Blogs don't pay you for existing. You earn from what readers do next: click a link, buy your product, see an ad or join your list.
- Own your blog. Social media and other companies can change the rules or close the door on you.
- You don't have to be a "writer." If you can explain something to a friend over coffee, you can write a post, and AI can help with the first draft.
- Think months, not days. Steady posting is what gives a blog a chance.
Can you make money blogging if you're not a writer?
Yes. Most of the blogs I read aren't written by professional writers. They're written by regular people who know something useful and share it in plain words.
I'm one of those regular people. I spent nearly 30 years in logistics and UPS management. I've been in affiliate marketing since 2012. Nobody ever called me a writer. But I blog now, and I want to show you how it works.
What readers actually want
Readers don't want a school essay. They want an answer to their question from somebody who sounds like a real person. That means:
- Short sentences and simple words.
- One idea at a time.
- Your own stories and opinions, not just facts anyone could copy.
A good blog post is just a helpful conversation written down.
What are the main ways blogs make money?
A blog needs a way to earn from the people who read it. Here are the four common ones.
1. Affiliate links
You recommend a product or program you actually use. If a reader buys through your link, you earn a commission. This is how I've worked since 2012.
- Good for: beginners, because you don't have to create a product.
- Watch out for: hiding your links or pushing things you've never used. Always tell readers when a link pays you.
2. Your own product or service
This could be a guide, a class, a membership or a service like coaching or setup help. You keep more of each sale because it's yours.
- Good for: people who know a topic well and get asked the same questions over and over.
- Watch out for: building a product before anyone is reading. Get readers first, then ask what they need.
3. Ads, once traffic is real
Some bloggers put ads on their posts and get paid based on visitors. This only makes sense once you have steady traffic. A handful of visitors a day won't add up to much.
- Good for: blogs that already get a lot of visitors.
- Watch out for: cluttering a small blog with ads too early. It can push readers away before you've earned their trust.
4. An email list
An email list isn't money by itself. But it's how you stay in touch with readers after they leave your blog. Most people won't buy the first time they read a post. A friendly follow-up email a few days later gives them a reason to come back.
- Good for: turning one-time readers into people who know you.
- Watch out for: sending nothing but sales pitches. Help first.
Why does owning your blog matter?
Here's the lesson I learned the hard way. For over ten years, I built my business around one company. My contacts and my follow-up lived inside it. Then the company shut down, and my whole contact list went with it. Years of people who had said "tell me more" were gone.
That's why I tell everybody: own your platform.
- Your own blog stays up even when a social media site changes the rules.
- Your own domain name means people can find you at the same address for years. Here's why every affiliate marketer needs their own domain.
- Your own email list means you can reach your readers without asking permission from anyone.
Social media is great for getting seen. But it's rented space. Your blog and your list are the house you own.
How do you use AI to blog when you're not a writer?
This is where things have changed. AI tools can help you get a first draft down fast. I use Claude to help write my blog posts and ChatGPT to make my thumbnails.
How I use it
- Pick one question my readers are asking.
- Tell Claude the topic, who I'm writing for and the main points I want to make.
- Read every line of the draft.
- Add my own stories, fix anything that sounds stiff and check any facts.
- Publish and share it.
I keep it short so I actually do it every day. Here's the full walkthrough: my 7-minute daily AI blogging routine for organic traffic.
The rule I don't break
The AI gets you started. You make it worth reading. Never publish a draft you haven't read. Readers can tell when nobody is home behind the words, and a wrong fact can cost you their trust.
How long does it take to make money blogging?
Honest answer: months, not days. And plenty of blogs never earn anything.
Here's why it takes time:
- Search engines need time to find and trust a new blog.
- One post rarely does much. A library of helpful posts does more.
- Readers usually need to see you several times before they buy anything.
I haven't reached my own income goal yet. I'm still doing gig delivery while I build. I'd rather tell you that now than have you quit in week three because nobody told you the truth.
What helps you stick with it
When I look back on my 20 years at Burger King alongside UPS, one thing kept me going: a set daily routine. Same thing works here.
- Pick your days and your time.
- Keep each session short enough that you'll actually do it.
- Track what people read, then write more of that.
What mistakes should new bloggers avoid?
- Publishing AI drafts without reading them.
- Writing for everyone instead of one type of reader.
- Posting a lot for two weeks, then stopping.
- Hiding affiliate links or overselling.
- Building your whole business on a platform you don't own.
What I use to turn readers into an email list
Getting readers is only half of it. If they leave and never come back, you've lost them. So I send people from my posts to a simple sign-up page, and my follow-up emails go out on their own.
For that I use Automated Toolbox. I'm a member, and I use it for my lead capture pages and as my autoresponder, the tool that sends my follow-up emails for me after someone signs up. I pick a capture page, pick the contact group people land in, and my email series runs while I'm out driving or sleeping. I wrote more about it in why I build my email list with Automated Toolbox.
A capture page with no visitors does nothing, so blog first and build your list as readers show up. If you want to see the capture pages for yourself, take a look at Automated Toolbox here. No promises on money. Whatever tool you use, keep your own copy of your contacts.
How I'm building my own blog
When I started, the hardest part wasn't writing. It was setting up a blog and knowing what to do next. So I built GoBeaug Links for everyday people, not tech people. You get your own link-in-bio page, your own blog, a business card and simple tools. You can have Claude or ChatGPT write a post and paste it in once.
It's $40 a year at the founding price through January 1, 2027, and $120 a year starting January 2, 2027. No monthly fees and no auto-renewal. Take a look at GoBeaug Links here.
Start with one post. Then write another. That's how every blog begins.
Frequently asked questions
Can a beginner really make money blogging?
Yes, it's possible, but it isn't quick or guaranteed. Beginners usually earn through affiliate links or their own offer first. Many blogs take months to earn anything, and many never do. How you do depends on your topic, your effort and how long you stick with it.
Do I need to be a good writer to start a blog?
No. You need to be helpful and clear. Write like you talk, keep sentences short and share your own experience. AI tools can help with drafts, as long as you read and edit every line.
How do bloggers get paid?
The common ways are affiliate commissions, selling their own product or service, ads once they have steady traffic, and using an email list to stay in touch with readers who may buy later.
Is it OK to use AI to write blog posts?
It can be, if you use it as a helper and not a replacement. Read every draft, add your own stories and check every fact before you publish. Your voice is the part readers come back for.
Why should I build an email list from my blog?
Because most readers leave and forget you. An email list lets you follow up with people who were interested, and it's a list you control even if a social site or company changes its rules.
