Why you should always say when a link can earn you money
Telling people when a link pays you builds trust and follows the rules. Here is how to say it in one short sentence, and where to put it.
David Zimmerman
If a link in your post can earn you money, say so. It is the honest thing to do, and it is also what the rules ask for.
Why it matters
People trust you more when you are open with them. Most people do not mind that you earn a commission. They mind finding out later that you hid it.
How to say it
Keep it short and plain. Any of these will do:
- I may earn a commission if you sign up through my link.
- This is my affiliate link.
- #ad
Where to put it
Put it where people will see it before they click, not hidden at the bottom of the page. On social media, put it in the post itself, not only in a comment.
Do not make promises
Never say or suggest that someone will earn a certain amount. Results vary, and many people earn little or nothing. Say what you actually did and let people decide.
One more thing
This is general information, not legal advice. If you are not sure about the rules where you live, ask a professional.
